Ashfall Wardens
Ashfall Wardens is a proper little RPG that respects your time. You build a party of four wardens, each with their own skill tree, and push through a world slowly being buried under volcanic ash. Combat is turn-based but quick, and positioning matters more than raw stats, which keeps even early fights interesting.
The writing surprised me. Side characters have actual arcs, and choices in dialogue nudge how certain quests resolve. I replayed one chapter just to see a different outcome. For a touchscreen RPG the menus are clean and the save system is forgiving if your commute gets interrupted.
If anything, the mid-game grind runs a little long before the next story beat. But the class synergies are deep enough that experimenting with party builds carried me through the slow patch.
What we liked
- Snappy turn-based combat with real positioning
- Characters you actually care about
- Deep skill trees that reward experimenting
