Why Turn-Based Combat Just Works on Phones
Playing Ashfall Wardens on my commute made something obvious: turn-based combat and phones are a natural match. You can pause to think, step off at your stop, and nothing punishes you for a ten-minute break mid-fight.
Real-time action games keep trying to cram console controls onto glass, and it rarely feels right. A turn-based system asks for your brain, not your thumbs, and that fits the bitty way we play on the move.
My advice if you're new to the genre: embrace the slow pace. Read the skill descriptions, experiment with party order, and don't rush. The best moments come from a plan clicking into place, not from twitch reflexes.
It's why some of our highest-rated games this year have been turn-based. The format respects both your time and your attention span.
